How much heat can red Loctite handle?
All LOCTITE® threadlockers have a broad temperature resistance of -65°F to 300°F, while some threadlockers are designed for high temperatures up to 650°F.
Loctite Threadlocker Red 271 is a permanent solution for locking and sealing threaded fasteners and is only removable once cured by heating up parts to 500°F (260°C).
LOCTITE® threadlockers have a broad temperature resistance of -65°F to 300°F (-54°C to 149°C), making them suitable for use in most applications. However, for applications where high temperatures are commonplace, choose a threadlocker with higher heat resistance, such as LOCTITE® 263.
Most Loctite threadlockers and retaining compounds will set in 10-20 minutes. It will take them 24 hours to dry into a hardened plastic. This process is called curing.
Heat breaks down Loctite thread lockers, allowing you to loosen and remove fasteners with regular tools. Make sure to use a correctly sized wrench or socket. A tool with a long breaker bar will allow you to apply the right amount of torque.
For parts that need a more permanent hold, like structural bolts in a home, auto suspensions and frames, or any other heavy machinery, Loctite Threadlocker Red 271 is the answer. This industrial grade threadlocker packs a stronger punch than the blue and can only be removed by heating the parts to 500F.
For firearms purposes, it's best to use blue loctite (medium strength) or below. Blue is the strongest non-permanent loctite out there, making it ideal for gun projects. If you ever sell the gun (or decide to undo the change you made) you can still go back and fix it.
Full cure is attainable in 24 hours at room temperature, 22°C (72°F), or 1 hour at 93°C (200°F).
Heat resistant adhesives include cyanoacrylates, epoxies, acrylics, silicone and urethane. Each type has its own unique set of properties that make it more useful for certain tasks. Heat resistant glue is often used in the following applications: Ovens, stoves and fireplaces.
Permatex's 500° High Heat Epoxy is the first and only high temperature liquid syringe epoxy. Ideal for surface repairs with high temperatures such as under-hood automotive and home repair. This high temperature epoxy withstands 2X higher temperatures compared to standard epoxies that traditionally breakdown at 250°F.
What is the weakest color of LOCTITE?
- PURPLE THREADLOCKER – Low Strength. ...
- GREEN THREADLOCKER – Wicking Grade for Post Assembly. ...
- BLUE THREADLOCKER – Medium Strength. ...
- RED THREADLOCKER – High Strength.
Permatex's Threadlocker Red locks against vibration loosening. May require heat or special tools for removal. This high-temperature formulation is designed for high performance applications that require extreme temperature resistance. Suited for temperatures up to 450°F (232°C).

The Adhesive Systems Inc (ASI) HT Series cyanoacrylate super glue is a high temperature resistant adhesive that can withstand up to 275 Degrees F of heat. It creates a strong, lasting bond even when temperatures are cycled from high to low for or kept at the top range for extended periods of time.
Maximum Operating Temperature: +300°F. Minimum Operating Temperature: -65°F.
