How to remove red loctite without heat?
The cured red LOCTITE® product can be removed with a combination of soaking in a solvent and mechanical abrasion such as a wire brush. For female threads, a tap can be used to clear the threads instead of a wire brush.
Removing the red threadlocker involves heating the nut and bolt for a couple of minutes to a temperature of 500°F (250°C), applying localized heat using a blowtorch, for example. This will soften the thermoset plastic in the threadlocker.
Loctite Threadlocker Red 271 is a permanent solution for locking and sealing threaded fasteners and is only removable once cured by heating up parts to 500°F (260°C).
If applying heat doesn't work, switch to the chemical release method for better results. Methylene Chloride or WD 40 will offer optimum results.
What will dissolve red LOCTITE®? LOCTITE® SF 790 Chisel Paint Stripper or LOCTITE® SF 7601 Equipment Flushing Solvent can be used to soften cured red LOCTITE®. Mechanical abrasion will also be needed to assist with the removal.
High strength (e.g. Loctite 270, “red”): you will need to apply heat (about 250° C). Then loosen the bolt with hand tools. This grade is used for permanent assemblies. It is very hard to remove.
For applications with a high risk of vibration or shock, choose red threadlockers. As the strongest grade of threadlocking adhesive, these provide the highest level of resistance to vibration, shock and torque. They hold firmly in place as a permanent solution.
LOCTITE® red threadlocker is the highest strength of threadlocker adhesive. This product cures fully in 24 hours and is available in both a liquid and as a semisolid anaerobic. The red high strength threadlocker products are so powerful they may require heat to be disassembled.
Plain acetone works best. Just soak the parts for a few hrs and they are good as new. Locktite is the best solvent for locktite.
The breakaway torque (strength provided by the threadlocker) is 5 Nm.
What color Loctite is not permanent?
Loctite threadlockers are primarily designed to prevent fasteners from leaking or loosening from vibration. The difference between red and blue threadlocker is a matter of strength and removability. Loctite threadlocker blue is designed to easily be replaceable with common tools, whereas red is a more permanent fix.
Blot the glue with acetone or rubbing alcohol and let this substance break down the glue.
Using gloves, saturate a cotton ball, pad or cleaning rag with acetone or nail polish remover and press against the dried super glue for five to ten minutes, or until the glue starts to soften and become more malleable. Lift.
Apparently it can be removed using brake cleaning fluid, which dissolves the Loctite. The recommended brand was CRC Brakleen. You apply it and then let it penetrate for a few hours. Remove *RED* Loctite WITHOUT Heat!
To remove adhesive residue from metal, you should try using rubbing alcohol, or isopropyl, first. Apply with a cotton ball and let it soak in. Most adhesives will break down on contact, and rubbing alcohol won't damage metal surfaces.
Boiling water can soften the glue. Try just hot water first, working it into the glue and washing it away.

Soak a cloth in vegetable oil or skin moisturiser and rub it against the glue. Wait for the substance to soak in, and then clean the surface. White vinegar also works well: soak the area in vinegar, then remove the glue with a dull edge such as a spatula.
INGESTION Harmful if swallowed. May cause stomach pain or vomiting. Central nervous system depression. SKIN CONTACT Irritating to skin.
Loctite Threadlocker 272 withstands temperatures to 450°F. This high temperature/ high strength, red threadlocker is formulated for heavy-duty applications. Prevents bolts up to 11 „ 2" (36 mm) from loosening due to shock, severe vibration, and heat stress.
Is red Loctite stronger than blue?
Red threadlockers create the strongest bond, but they require the application of high heat, and the use of tools to disassemble. Not all assemblies can tolerate high heat. Many applications can be reliably locked in with blue (medium strength), purple (low strength), or green (penetrating) threadlockers.
Permatex Orange provides high strength for heavy-duty applications, but unlike Red Threadlocker, it can be removed with hand tools and does not require heating to achieve removal. Ideal for high vibration applications such as power sports, heavy equipment, automotive, and industrial applications.
Full cure is attainable in 24 hours at room temperature, 22°C (72°F), or 1 hour at 93°C (200°F).
Loctite Purple (222): Low Strength Threadlockers
From the lowest side of the spectrum is the Loctite Purple.
The shelf life period for Loctite® products is one year from date of shipment from Henkel facilities or as indicated by package labeling. For optimal storage, maintain product at a temperature between 8°C (46°F) to 21°C (70°F).

Answer: The Loctite people recommend reducing applied torque by 20 percent from dry values when using their liquid thread-locking compounds on threaded fasteners. You can find tables of wet-vs. -dry fastener torques in places like Thomas J.
Permatex High-Strength Threadlocker Red
Threadlocker RED adds 3,000 PSI holding power on slip and press fit assemblies, and replaces set screws and snap rings. Permatex's Threadlocker Red locks against vibration loosening.
Loctite Threadlocker Red 271 is moisture resistant and protects threads from leaks, rusting, and corrosion while eliminating the need to stock up on expensive lock nuts and washers. Fast and easy to use, this heavy duty, high-strength threadlocker sets in just 10 minutes and fully cures in 24 hours.
Avoid using threadlock on frequently removed small nuts and bolts, especially on light-duty bolts, such as those used to hold on side panels. Loctite should never be used on radiator shroud bolts.
What is the weakest Loctite?
Loctite thread lockers are color coded to indicate their strength. From weakest to strongest they are labeled purple, blue, red, or green. Purple and blue can generally be loosened by hand tools at room temperature, whereas red and green require application of heat of about 450F to loosen.
For firearms purposes, it's best to use blue loctite (medium strength) or below. Blue is the strongest non-permanent loctite out there, making it ideal for gun projects.
Super glue cures by reacting to the presence of moisture in the air. Ideal relative humidity (RH) ranges between 30-70%. The bonding area should be exposed to air until curing is complete. Loctite super glue will bond most surfaces.
Can you use acetone for cleaning metal? Yes, you can! Acetone is well known as one of the safest solvents to use for cleaning metal.
Loctite Epoxy Weld does not shrink and is resistant to most shop fluids such as water, diesel fuel, gasoline, antifreeze, hydraulic fluid, motor oil and transmission fluids.
